Hepatitis?!! Could you imagine a virus that is 50 to 100 times more infectious than the virus that causes aids? If you are infected with this kind of virus, you cannot see any symptoms and has no idea that your liver is being damaged. The Hepatitis B virus is responsible for up to 80% of liver cancer cases in the world. The Hepatitis B virus is transmitted from sharing or reusing contaminated needles or syringes, through unprotected sex, open wound contact, from mother to newborn child or blood transfusions. If ever with symptoms which are mostly experienced in acute stage of the disease, it would manifest as flu-like symptoms that include loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, itching all over the body, fatigue, jaundice, abdominal pain and color tea or cola of your urine.
Hepatitis B is diagnosed through a simple relatively inexpensive blood test called Hepatitis profile. The most effective way of controlling hepatitis B is the universal childhood vaccination with three doses of Hepatitis B. All babies and all children ages 0-18 years old who have not been vaccinated should get their Hepatitis B shots. And of those any age whose behavior or job puts them at high risk for Hepatitis B infection should also get vaccinated.
Without proper medical care, one in four chronic Hepatitis B virus carriers will eventually die of liver cancer or liver failure. We should be vigilance against Hepatitis B, with really detection and the development of new and more advances study of drugs, the chances of treatment success are excellent.
